Fendig Summer Theatre for Children is small town organization that provides theater experiences to children in fourth through eighth grade. While adults help direct the production and advertise, the performance is soley put on by the children. No adults are back stage or dealing with technical aspects of the show. It's a great program that builds up leadership, discipline, creativity and so many other skills. When you watch a Fendig production you often forget that children are putting on a performance. They are so good it feels like you are watching the Broadway edition of the show!
I have been involved in Fendig as a cast memeber for 5 years. I performed in Oklahoma, Beauty and the Beast, Alice in Wonderland, Thouroughly Modern Millie, and The Wind in the Willows. In two productions I was a chorus member, in two productions I was a supporting role, and in one I was the lead role. Last year I aged out of Fendig, but still helped with their lights and set. This year I volunteered and did just about everything to help with Fendig. I made costumes, built set, made props, and played in the pit band. I made a lot of great experiences this summer. The Warehouse where we keep all of our beautiful costumes, sets, and props is having difficulty. We are trying to raise money to "Raise the Roof" of the building to help with the leaking problems. We really need to raise enough money so we can protect all of the costumes so future children can use them.
