Fendig Summer Theatre for Children is small town organization that provides theater experiences to children in fourth through eighth grade. While adults help direct the production and advertise, the performance is soley put on by the children. No adults are back stage or dealing with technical aspects of the show. It's a great program that builds up leadership, discipline, creativity and so many other skills. When you watch a Fendig production you often forget that children are putting on a performance. They are so good it feels like you are watching the Broadway edition of the show!
I have been involved in Fendig as a cast memeber for 5 years. I performed in Oklahoma, Beauty and the Beast, Alice in Wonderland, Thouroughly Modern Millie, and The Wind in the Willows. In two productions I was a chorus member, in two productions I was a supporting role, and in one I was the lead role. Last year I aged out of Fendig, but still helped with their lights and set. This year I volunteered and did just about everything to help with Fendig. I made costumes, built set, made props, and played in the pit band. I made a lot of great experiences this summer. The Warehouse where we keep all of our beautiful costumes, sets, and props is having difficulty. We are trying to raise money to "Raise the Roof" of the building to help with the leaking problems. We really need to raise enough money so we can protect all of the costumes so future children can use them. If you would like to make a donation, or even just check out more of what Fendig Summer Theatre's about please go to this website. http://www.fendigtheatre.org/

Dancing is a great way to express emotions, and in many cases is an art. I have been dancing for almost 11 years now, and I am proud to say that I am a dancer. Even though the routines, and working with people got harder over the years, I learned and continue to learn a lot of things from ballet.
Ballet is amazing. When you see someone that is really good, they normally have a prescence on stage and exhibit grace and elegance. One thing about ballet that is awesome, is where you can apply the skills you learn from it. Ballet takes some serious core muscle strength and patience. It takes time to build up the muscles and flexibilty needed for ballet. I have applied these skills in marching band and even when I play sports. Sometimes you need grace and quick moves to help you get through a game. The recital went great and below I included some shots from the dress rehearsal. I am looking forward to seeing where my dance career will go next. Dance on... For Mother's Day, I helped Dad make orange rolls for Mom. We cooked a breakfast that she didn't have to make or clean up. Plus she got to sleep in. I also made omelets. I learned how to make omelets in my engineering class this year. During the winter, one of the students in my class found a griddle in the classroom. We all decided that we needed to have a breakfast day, so we did. We all brought in a variety of different foods for breakfast. We made 15-20 omelets, probably 50 pancakes (banana, chocolate chip, M&M, Lucky Charm, and a combo),cereal, donuts, fruit, chocolate milk, and orange juice. We had a feast. I had never made before that. It's amazing to think that I learned how to make an omelet in a class that we normally build robots, catapults, self-propelled vehicles, and use programming software. It came in handy though, because they were a hit this morning. I filled them with cheese, onions, peppers, thyme, and basil. They were delicious. I might have to make them again sometime. This weekend I also made a Spanish influenced dish for my Spanish class. We were required to make a dish and explain how to make it in Spanish. I had a great time with my friends, made some great banana pancakes, and got the project done early! Here is the link if you want to make some yummy Banana Pancakes! Later on this week, I will make some Russian Zebra Cake for my History class, so look on my Flickr page for yummy photos. Have a good week.
Today I think I needed some inspiration so this is one of my favorite verses. Enjoy. Have a blessed day.
Today our family met our youngest cousin, Rylan. He is already a year old. It was really cool to see both sides of his family come together and celebrate his being. Rylan is probably one of the cutest babies I have ever seen so you guys need to see him too. He is so great. Heres a picture. Anyway...Today we all came together as a family to help him celebrate. It was a fun way to visit and a great reminder that when times get busy make room for family time. I am really grateful to have a loving supporting family, and try to support and be open to anyone who needs it. Thanks Mom and Dad. Here are some pictures of our day today.
Well.. I haven't updated in a long time. Things got busy. I am sad to say that my project 365 has failed again this year. I take a photo every day, but I can't get them all online and in order. I will just have to make sure I update this blog more often and make it awesome. I was doing some online class work today, and got inspired to go take a bunch of photos so here you go.
I am so glad that spring is here, and I am loving this beautiful weather. Hope that everyone has a safe and happy Easter weekend. It seems appropriate to say something, considering it is Good Friday. I am so thankful and blessed because of our Lord, Jesus Christ, and I hope that people rememeber that He died for us, and forgave us for our sin. Please celebrate His Grace and the true meaning of Easter this weekend and pray for all those in need. Blessed be your name. Photos from my spring break will be up soon, have a good weekend. The force is strong. My mom and dad introduced us to Star Wars. We are all fans of it. We don't sit around the house and watch Star Wars movies all day, but we do have some cool collectibles. These lightsabers are from my brothers collection. Somehow when my friends were over we ended up dueling with them. This was the outcome. May the force be with you. MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!
Well, every now and then I think of something little that makes me happy. My mom came across this book which is filled with sayings, quotes and little things in life that make us happy. I put together a few things that make me happy. Coming up with a list of things that make you happy or that you are thankful is actually a really fun thing to do. Try it some time. You won't imagine the impact it will have on you.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/helenham/ Harrison and I went on an hour photoshoot today. His recent Christmas present has made him take more pictures, and he seems to enjoy it. It's fun to see him grow as a photographer and look at things in a new perspective. Most of these pictures are on my Flickr stream but I thought today would be a good photo day. The lighting outside was not ideal. It is cold and gloomy outside so the edits I did really emphasized the weather today. I wish it would warm up or snow. It's no fun when its cold and gloomy outside. It should snow so it at least looks appealing.
Made it through a week of my project! Yay. Here is my stream again if you would like to follow. http://www.flickr.com/photos/helenham/ Photography is a bitter medicine, a wonderful toy, a difficult -yet universal- word. ~ MAURO FIORESE Extreme Rubik's CubeI could not have the patience this guy does with rubics cubes. I can't even solve one of these things, and he can make awesome art with them. This guy is talented and artistic. He used 4,242 Rubik's Cubes to create this piece. It is amazing, but it had to be expensive!!! One Rubik's cube costs $12.99. That would mean a total of $55,103.58. That is a ton of money. Hopefully he had a lot of sponsors. Space PaintingsHopefully you liked the weird art I found. It was very interesting, and fun to see how different people view art.
Julia. 2012 Perspective. The statement of one's ideas, or visible scene in the distance. Perspective was this weeks theme in one of my photography groups on Flickr. Imagine if everything was in the perspective of your pet. The way my dog Julia sees the world is totally different than the way I see it. She has a different past, and experiences that make her the type of pet she is. The theme this week made me think about how lucky I am to have my dog Julia. Julia is an 11 year old basset hound that our family adopted from the Guardian Angel Basset Rescue (GABR) in the spring of 2009. She has been with us about two years. Julia was found roaming the streets of Saint Louis, and was taken to the pound. GABR rescued her and placed her in a foster home where she stayed for a while. She grew close to her foster parent, and her dog Picasso. With the passing of our beloved Cleo, the family needed another dog to keep us company, so we contacted GABR and they found us our Miss Julia. Ever since that spring break Julia has been living in a whole new perspective in our home. She is growing old, but it's good to know that we gave her a better life than before. GABR is an organization that rescues basset hounds in need. They protect the dogs and pledge to do the best at providing homes for as many basset hounds as they can. Unlike the pound, GABR has you submit an application to adopt a dog. They look at your family, ages, and the type of lifestyle you live to match you to a basset hound that is currently enrolled and up for adoption. Basset hounds are kind dogs who don't need a whole lot to make them happy. Our basset loves belly rubs, taking naps in the sun, and playing fetch. Bassets are often stereotyped as being lazy, but they can be quite active too. We were very glad to adopt Julia, and even took a trip down to St. Louis to visit her before everything was said and done. She immediately loved all the attention, so we took her home. GABR provides amazing oppurtunities in getting an amazing, and loving family pet. If you would like to check it out. http://www.bassetrescue.org/ Julia's perspective on life changed, even though she probably didn't know it. At the beginning of this new year, lets all see the world from a different perspective. Happy New Year! Hope everyone had fun with friends and family last night! A part of my New Years Resolution is to get my photography out where people can see it,so my Dad helped me put together this blog. Hopefully it will be as interesting as I hoped. Year in Review: This year was full of ups and downs, but the important thing is that we made it. Every year for the past two years I had tried to put together a Project 365. The first year I didn't last a week. The second year I made it through a month. This year I am going to try to finish the project. Being leap year, it will be a special project. Project 366. Today I took my first photo, and my Dad and brother started the project as well. We will see which one of us will actually complete the project. If you would like to view my Project 366, it will be on my Flickr page, and I will occasionally post here.
